Vandals Strike Capital One Cafe In Carytown

The sound of shattering glass echoed through the center of the Carytown shopping district on the evening of Wednesday September 2nd as vandals targeted windows of the Capital One Cafe.

According to Richmond Police a witness phoned in the incident shortly after 10 PM after seeing several individuals smashing windows and spray painting the exterior of the cafe. Additionally the witness reported two individuals on bicycles accompanying the crowd of vandals attacking the structure.

Upon arriving at the scene officers discovered around 16 glass windows on the structure smashed and bricks on the floor inside the cafe.

Graffiti on the walls and windows included "FTP" a popular acronym for Fuck The Police and another explicit tag "Fuck Banks."

While this is not the first time in recent months that vandals have targeted a prominent symbol of capitalism it is the first incident involving a small group of criminals performing a hit. Prior events in Richmond have typically required larger crowds to provide cover for the nefarious activities of the individuals out to perform criminal activities.

Richmond Police request anyone with tips about this crime to call Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000 and advise that security video will be released very soon to help identify suspects.
