“The Richmond Police Department stands by the rule of law, and right now we’re going to sit and wait to see what the courts have to say,” Richmond Police Chief Gerald Smith said.

Fielding questions following a community event Tuesday, Police Chief Gerald Smith declined to share specifics on what occurred on the morning of May 31.

“I think this can just be a real turning point for us, because we’ve already seen the worst of what can be, and now we can see the best,” Carena Ives, the owner of Jamacia House said. “I know so many of us love this city, and I truly believe that with time this place can really thrive.”

A Richmond Grand Jury received 18 sealed indictments related to actions the Richmond Police Department took during weeks of unrest in Richmond over the late Spring and Summer months, Richmond Commonwealth's Attorney Colette McEachin announced in an email Monday. Officers Mark Janowski and Christopher Brown have both been charged with assault and battery, according to McEachin.

"I haven’t heard any alternatives being suggested," City Councilmember Kim Gray said. "If there are technologies or alternatives to this, I'm interested in hearing what they are. But at this point my recommendation would be to strike this legislation."

Richmond Police have arrested a man accused of assaulting another man at the Circle on Monument Avenue late Sunday night. Officers were called to the circle on Monument Avenue for the report of an assault at approximately 11:20 p.m. Upon arrival, officers located a man who had suffered injuries. The victim was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Stump said he liked the location, but the protests, in his mind, had dealt a blow to the ongoing revitalization of downtown. Some storefronts in the neighborhood remain boarded up after earlier protests led to property damage in the neighborhood.

“All that work just went down the toilet,” he said.
