Confederate Jefferson Davis Statue Toppled By Vigilante Vandals

A day after the Columbus statue was tossed in Fountain Lake and just hours after demonstrators in the city of Portsmouth vandalized and toppled a confederate statue several unknown individuals in Richmond toppled the figure of Jefferson Davis from the large Lost Cause memorial on Monument Avenue.

Much of this particular evening in Richmond turned out to be uneventful as stormy weather moved in soaking demonstrators and sending them home to take shelter. Despite the inclement conditions a handful of protesters remained on the grounds of the Robert E. Lee monument well into the evening.

Just before 11 PM excitement flared up a few blocks away at the intersection of North Davis Avenue and Monument Avenue where reports began circulating of a statue laying in the eastbound lanes of the street. Soon social media was abuzz with photos of a dented Jefferson Davis blocking the travel lanes. People from nearby homes and others within short driving distance were soon on the scene taking in the spectacle of this toppled statue.

Not long after the incident Richmond Police were on site and closed the roads to traffic until the statue could be relocated. Around 11:50 PM a tow truck arrived and hoisted the damaged Davis statue off the road and transported it to an undisclosed location.

With the tow trucking departing the gathered crowds began chanting and singing “na na na good bye!”

The identities of the vigilante statue topplers remain a mystery however eyewitnesses reported seeing a tiny sedan with a rope rip the statue off its pedestal.
